About the owner, Darryl Soifersmith,
Licensed Massage Therapist and Illustrator

I was born in Newfoundland, Canada and was raised in Union, NJ . In 2004, I moved to New Milford, CT with my amazing soon-to-be wife, Elyse, and began working at Take Time. This was not only a place where I could spend my work day focusing on my clients' needs, it also offered a very peaceful environment that soothed the transition.

When I was introduced to Massage Therapy, I was working as a production planner for a printing company. Based on the advice of a friend, I turned to massage therapy as a way to manage the anxiety and mood changes caused by my occupation. After receiving my first session, which happened to be Reiki, I was ready for not just a career change, but a major life overhaul! As a client, I was impressed by the level of self-empowerment and self-responsibility massage could offer me. I realized that since massage therapy helped me to evolve, I now had a responsibility to help others.

I enrolled in and graduated from the Somerset School for Massage Therapy in Somerset, NJ (now called the Cortiva Institute) in 2002. This program provided me with an unmatchable learning experience about the human body and social interaction - a very vital part is the mutual trust that must be created when helping others. I was very fortunate to begin working in this field within a very short time of graduating. It seems that even from the beginning of this journey, so much was destined. Many doors opened and opportunities became available, almost out of thin air. I will always be filled with gratitude for all of those who took a chance and allowed me to pursue this dream, and for every supporter who believed in me.

Another reason for my venture into this field was that I wanted to continue my other passion, which is Illustration. I hoped that I would be able to have a less structured schedule, thereby giving me more time to focus on my art, which it did. Prior to my Massage Therapy career, I earned a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Although I have never been "traditionally employed" as an artist, I have had many opportunities to show my work at various galleries throughout the country.

In 2009, an opportunity beyond my wildest expectations arrived that was impossible to ignore. The previous owner of Take Time, Irene Mardal, decided it was time for her to move on and sold the business to me. With the unyielding help of my staff, I have been able to transform Take Time into a Relaxation Center for a new generation, while keeping true to its core values. One week after the transition, my wife, Elyse, gave birth to our twin babies. So, I know a little about stress!!! I know how dangerous it is, and I know how to eliminate it.

In celebration of my ten year anniversary of transitioning into this world, I will finally be able to merge my two passions by transforming some of the space of Take Time into an ART GALLERY! We will still continue to offer the same amazing services, but with the added feature of promoting some of the local artists, including me and the other talented members of my staff.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and, for all of you who continue to support my dream, I love you very much.

Take it easy,

Darryl
